And before the race is built anew,

A silver serpent comes to view,

And spew out men like unknown.

To mingle with the Earth now grown,

Cold from its heat and these men can enlighten the minds of the future man     To intermingle and show them how

To live and love and thus endow

The children with the second sight

A natural thing so they might

Grow graceful, humble and when they do

The golden age will start anew.

"He doesn't see things like anyone else,” Simon paused, ”You can say that about some people because they see things differently to the majority of other people but that’s not the case with Jason. His difference is he sees things from everyone’s perspective. The way he is built he sees the world through the eyes of every single human being he only has to be near them and it just flows into him."

He paused again and looked at the screen in front of him that showed a team of soldiers in preparation.

"I think he is probably unique and most likely evolution created him this way for a very good reason, but as you would understand it can be confronting to even him sometimes."

"So he reads minds?"

Julie knew she was only making fun of Simon, but she really did think sometimes Jason read her mind.

"No dear. It’s not mind-reading, he just sees the world the same way you do, and you are everyone he meets. For example, he meets an American Indian or an Australian Aboriginal, he has immediate empathy with their culture as if he were one of them. Women, children, gay people, babies, even the mentally ill and people with disability. We have tested them all, he makes them feel comfortable and he can communicate in a way they understand. He says it’s because his soul is the first soul of all souls and that in basics that’s one thing we all as humans share. I guess it is a bit like being Eve with DNA."

"But some people I have seen seem to really hate him." She meant that sincerely. She knew over the years how fierce his enemies could be and how they seemed to resent him to their core.

"Ahh, that’s an observance we made as well but those people who showed hatred were, in fact, confusing their feelings for love and desire. You see love is so closely related to its opposite feeling it confuses the human mind, especially a weak one. You want a drug so much because it makes you feel so great that you cross over into animal aggression. We asked Jason about this and that was when we found out that he can actually feel how old a soul is."

"Really, wow, I wonder how old mine is,” she laughed, and slapped Simon’s arm?

"He said that with all of the cases where he was hated, he sensed very young souls, most in what he calls the 'first journey'. They usually display uncontrollable aggression, a need to hate, or even the need to maim and kill. I used to laugh when he told me the infamous people he had met were on their first journey,”  Simon thought back on his early discussions with Jason, “it really explains allot when you know.  He told me some are like that even on their second journey if they lived short first lives. These young souls, he said, are almost infantile so they struggle to understand or control their own minds. Many become drug addicts, child or women abusers; angry people with very little happiness who have no idea how to keep friends. Serial killers are often considered to be super smart people out of control with a mental issue, but in reality, they just have not learned how to control what we older souls take for granted as common sense or morality. Jason said there is no use hating them, as much as you despise their actions or attitudes, and that they are necessary to creation and evolution. He said they usually disliked him because they could sense his age and it either made them feel so good they wanted it like a drug, or in their mental confusion they rejected the feelings it generated within them, as is often the case with humans, we distrust what you do not understand."

He looked thoughtful for a moment.

"There was one exception he said, Ieko Fujimo, master of the Ong cult. He said Fujimo was an old soul that had been affected by a special kind of darkness that exists but is rarely seen. He said it is like a balance in all of us but in some, it becomes out of balance. He assumed it was to balance the existence of creatures like himself. He always says the whole Universe is so acutely balanced it exists on an edge that is less than the width of a molecule."

Julie sat listening and even though she had been with Jason so long she thought she understood him better than anyone, it was interesting to hear the point of view of a scientist who had studied him. Simon was just one of a team of scientists who studied Jason twenty-four-seven trying to understand what he was and how he could do everything he did. Jason had become a science unto himself over the last ten years, they had written countless books about him both in science and religion and even a few that were about him personally.

“So as a scientist, you have no trouble believing what he says about souls and timelines.” she asked when Simon stopped speaking, “and you obviously know about his mentor the ‘Darkness’?"

Simon smiled.

“Yes, I must admit it is challenging as a man of science but then so much of what he says has a balance and even a reason we find difficult to argue with. We, of course, like to prove everything in science and we are working on that too, but it is a bit like proving string theory, we know it all makes sense, and the evidence supports the theory, but how do you measure or even define a soul?”

He watched the soldiers on his monitors that were now lining underground streets and the crowds that gathered behind them.

“But since we have the orbs from the future that prove what he says about timelines, we may not yet have the ability but we at least know it is reality mankind will one day have, if we survive,” he said, a distinct irony in his tone.

Julie looked at the monitors.

“I guess it is time to go down and hear what Jason and the committee have to say to the world.”

They both stood at that comment and left the room. On the monitors, the crowd behind the lines of soldiers could be seen to be watching past the soldiers at a huge screen that covered the entire side of a twenty-story building.

Julie and Simon left the building they had been in and entered the back seat of a driverless electric vehicle. Simon requested an address and the vehicle moved off. All of the streets were lined with soldiers and there was very little other traffic. Behind the lines of soldiers were people walking towards the twenty-storey building they could now see and their vehicle was approaching. They were one of only a few official vehicles allowed to be using the streets this day and when they came to blocked intersections the soldiers waved them through.

It was a very special day in the underground world as Jason King, the Worlds Supreme Commander had announced he would be addressing all of the twelve underground cities at 3 pm UTC and it would be televised on giant screens in every city simultaneously.

Julie looked at her watch and it was 2.55 UTC and they were just entering the official viewing location. These days all watches and clocks in every underground city were set on Converted Universal Time so that they all operated in the same time frame. There was no difference in day and night except what was officially created in each city. It did not matter what happened above the ground as all government and big business were now controlled by these cities, and the people above the ground were not aware of the change. It had been an amazing global smoke and mirrors trick but if they were to avoid panic on the surface it just had to be that way.

As the clock clicked to three they sat down with other officials and the screen showed the United Nations emblem and then Jason appeared like a giant demi-God. This was only the second time Jason had spoken to the people of the underground cities in this way and the first time had been almost twelve months ago. Julie knew this had to be important and not just a Christmas message.

“People of the new Earth,” he began.

Julie knew no-one would be surprised by this term as Jason had mentioned last time that the underground cities would become the ‘new Earth’ eventually.

“It is with great sadness that I have to tell you today that the events we have been waiting for are about to hit the Earth.”

There was silence but Julie could feel the sorrow and pain of the masses.

“We have been successful in destroying two of the four pieces of the asteroid ‘Apophis’ as we expected we would, thanks to the Peoples Republic Of China and the Russian Federation with their joint galactic missile strategy that was fired from the International Space Station 6.”

My how the world had changed thought Julie, in just ten years China and Russia had become the world leaders and heroes and the USA had lost most of its power and influence, becoming almost isolated from the rest of the world. Australia was even its bigger brother now, much to the disgust of Bill Gatwick, especially since Jason was officially Australian. In protest, Gatwick had shifted all his empire to Japan which was also ironic since the Ong had originated from there. He blamed the late President Trump for the beginning of the end for the USA, which these days were not so united. Three states, Hawaii, Texas, and California had already managed to separate themselves and form a new union with South America which had become the new United States. None of that would matter now she thought.

“’ Apophis One’ will land in the Pacific Ocean near Guam at 5 am on the 31st of December 2026 and ‘Apophis Two’ will hit Mount Everest at  1 am on the 1st of January 2027. It could be considered an irony that the Earth will have a New Year never to be forgotten but at least those that will perish will do so together as family and friends gathering to celebrate the coming of a New Year that sadly will never come for them. I don’t say this to be cruel or do I take the matter lightly at all, but we are in a position where we just cannot tell the people of the world above the ground, or the panic will, at any rate, destroy their lives and any hope for happiness in their last few moments they will at least have together. Believe me, it has been an unbearably hard decision to make. As you know, we have spent trillions of dollars in recent years relocating cities under the guise of new world order and we have allocated massive resources to assisting the survivors in the aftermath. We have now relocated nearly one billion people to underground cities and this will represent the survival of the human race. The scientists of the world now tell us that the collisions with both the pieces of Apophis will rip the planet apart literally, shifting continents and resulting in an ice age that will last at least for the next ten years. Very few people, if any, not in the underground cities will survive to see the new Earth when we emerge, but we will continually scout for surviving communities and give assistance where we can. Our new world down here will change us as a race but I am hopeful it will be for the better. There will be no wars, no famine, no unemployment. There will be free education, there can be no crime, there will be no need for money as such, civil disobedience cannot be tolerated and where we can, your freedom of thought and speech will be preserved under the strict but sensible policies that have been implemented to protect all of you over the coming years of mass confinement. The armed forces of the world have all trained together over the last five years to operate all twelve cities as if they were one and we will all have one governing committee made up of the Union of all Nations, one business centre will control our resources and one protecting force will provide us with law and order. This will truly be a new world created by necessity and we will one day carry it back to the surface and hopefully, it will be a new world of peace, prosperity, and humanity. The protecting forces will be bringing in the last entrants to the city over the next seven days which will be mostly the remaining forces that have been working for us on the surface. You will have updates over the days to come on a regular basis and you must prepare for the shocks of the surface collisions which we will also feel, even down here. Thank you to everyone and may love and peace guide you through these difficult times.”

Jason disappeared as quickly as he had appeared replaced again by the United Nations insignia.

“That was short and direct,” said Julie to Simon.

“Have you ever known him to be anything else,” said Simon.

“I guess not, he is not a politician, or a dictator or a religious leader, he is just a person I guess, like me and you.” She thought about that. “Maybe not like us.”

They both laughed.

“It so tragic you just have to laugh,” said Simon, when they stopped.

“I am going to see my husband,” said Julie, “please excuse me, Simon.”

“Sure I will see you tomorrow.”

She gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and he left for the electric car. She turned and walked towards the building with the huge screen on it. There were two UN guards on the door but they waved her through. Inside there were official-looking people walking swiftly in all directions phones to the ear, or talking to each other as they moved. She walked to a desk with a beautiful short-haired woman sitting behind it with headphones on. The beautiful short-haired woman looked at Julie and removed the headphones immediately.

“Mrs King,” she stammered, “Mr King is expecting you, go straight in.”

She opened the door behind her desk and Julie smiled at her and entered. She did not like Jason’s receptionist much, she was too beautiful. Not that she did not trust Jason, it was just that he was like a rock star to these young girls and she knew that they would throw themselves at him, and her looking pregnant and all, how could she compete. She was being silly she knew.

Jason looked up from his computer as she entered and smiled, overjoyed to see her.

“Darling,” he got up and almost ran around the desk, “how are you both today?”

She smiled hugged him and felt a kick in her belly.

“We are just wonderful and very proud of you.”

“Not something I want to ever have to do again,” he grimaced and hugged her again.

He pulled back from her and looked into her eyes. His green eyes were bright as a young boy she noted, as always.

“Darling, I want to find Pietta and somehow bring her in. I want to do it myself.”

Hearing that name and thinking about their dear friend and knowing how Jason thought about her, brought her a flood of mixed emotions. She did not know whether to laugh, jump for joy or cry.
